DePuy Recalls Hip Replacement Parts
DePuy, a company of Johnson & Johnson, is being held in contempt by consumers the world over for negligence related to their hip replacement medical devices. Evidence has been uncovered that the company was aware of flaws in their medical devices prior to issuing a recall during 2010. Two separate devices were part of the DePuy hip recall: the ASR XL Acetabular System and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System. Up to 13% of these devices, implanted in patients through a hip replacement surgery, have failed. Failure of the devices is characterized by loose metal debris in the hip joint, which causes inflammation, tissue damage and severe pain. Many patients must undergo a second hip replacement surgery in order to replace the faulty devices.
